Jackie Chan has genuinely stood the test of time and even after 60 years in the movie business cinema industry he is dropping his tour de force. Recently the Hong Kong veteran action legend has just augmented his illustrious career over the weekend as his newest action film, Ride On, warded off a rivalry between Japanese anime hit Suzume and the Universal Pictures production ‘Mario Bros. Movie’ and triumphed China box over the weekend.

Jackie Chan can be seen as a former stuntman who is fighting debt collectors for the possession of his stunt horse in the Alibaba pictures produced and Yarry Lang-directed film Ride On. Based on the statistics provided by the Artisan Gateway, Ride On premiered at $11.7 Million, surpassing Suzume’s $8 million performance, and Super Mario Bros Underwhelmed to $6.3 million showing. During the long Easter weekend, the Mario bros. The movie surpassed expectations and broke numerous box office records in North America along with multiple international territories. However, the has fared poorly in China, where American films have really struggled over time, despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews on social platforms (9.4 on Maoyan and 9.5 on Taopiaopiao). With a release on April 5 China’s national holiday for the Qingming Festival, Universal effectively set up the movie but Suzume and Chinese Family Drama Hachiko easily defeated the movie, earning $7.6 Million and $5.4 Million Respectively while the Super Mario Bros hauled $4.7 Million. Considering how poorly Hollywood movies have recently performed in China, Mario’s meager opening-day revenues amounted to the greatest opening day for Hollywood animation since the Covid outbreak and the second-best single day for a U.S Studio production in 2023.

Throughout the five-day weekend in North America, Super Mario Bro.  made $204.6 million. Solid IP-driven tentpoles used to commonly earn as much or even greater in China than in their homeland United States in pre-pandemic years. As per Maoyan (a Chinese ticketing platform), Super Mario is expected to end its run at $ 17.5 million with its high social scores will enable it to maintain a better grip.
