What can be anticipated from Oppenheimer?
Oppenheimer marks Christopher Nolan’s initial project with Universal after he departs from Warner Bros. following the release of Tenet. He writes and directs the movie, adapted from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film will be produced by Nolan, his wife, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment.
According to the official synopsis, Oppenheimer depicts the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who served as the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II’s Manhattan Project, and his significant role in the development of the atomic bomb.
Cillian Murphy is at the forefront of a formidable ensemble cast, which includes Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s spouse Kitty, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves Jr., the director of the Manhattan Project, Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, the founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, and Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, a psychiatrist.
Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Dane DeHaan, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, and Matthew Modine round out the impressive ensemble cast.
The grand-scale biographical drama Oppenheimer was filmed using IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography. The film will also incorporate parts shot in IMAX® black and white analog photography, which is a first for Nolan’s work.
