Months before the Star Wars series Ahsoka could premiere on Disney+, rumors about Lars Mikkelsen taking on the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn surfaced and were addressed by him.
Mikkelsen who had previously voiced the Star Wars villain in Star Wars: Rebels has been rumored to be bringing this character to live-action for months now. However, there has been no official statement to either confirm or deny that.
On the face of it, Mikkelsen was apparently on board with the project, but supposedly, those very headlines have also been debunked.
Lars Mikkelsen himself stated to Express that “[he hadn’t] had the offer. But, yes” he would be open to returning to the role if given the opportunity.

Lars Mikkelsen Talks Thrawn
It appears that rumors surrounding the Star Wars: Rebels actor Lars Mikkelsen return as Thrawn in the upcoming Ahsoka series have evidently been debunked after a new interview.
In his interview with the Danish outlet, Streaming Guide, Mikkelsen stated that Lucasfilm had not “approached [him]” as of yet despite what other reports had been saying. He went on to add that it looks as though “it must be someone else” taking on the title of the Grand Admiral in the live-action project:
Well, I’ve heard that, but I haven’t heard anything about it yet. Then they should have approached me, but they haven’t. So it must be someone else, unfortunately,.
Lars did however express that it “could have been fun” playing the Star Wars villain again, but as much as he would like to admit, he would not be.
For fans, these quotes only could only create more speculation, many of them believing the actor is playing coy (as was seen in Andrew Garfield’s scenario in the wind-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home).

Is Lars Mikkelsen in Ahsoka?
Though Mikkelsen has now seemingly denied any involvement in the upcoming Disney+ project, many fans are still holding onto the idea that he will in fact be returning as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and these Star Wars aficionados might actually have a justified reason to do so.
Rosario Dawson, starring in Ahsoka was quite clear when she said the Disney+ epic space opera series would be focused on “trying to track [Thrawn] down,” after the villain’s jettison with Ezra Bridger into the far depths of the galaxy at the end of Star Wars: Rebels.
With Ezra seemingly being cast for the upcoming series, it’s only natural that Thrawn would also be making an appearance at some point in the series.
Not ruling out the possibility that the Chiss militaristic mastermind role could be passed on to someone else, what doesn’t add up is why Rosario Dawson would publicly celebrate reports about Mikkelsen returning to play the role.
Despite the actor himself saying that he hasn’t heard anything from Lucasfilm regarding the Grand Chiss Admiral, all evidence seems to be pointing at Mikkelsen playing Thrawn again.
Fans will not have to wait much longer concerning this Thrawn conundrum, as Ahsoka will be premiering sometime later this year and more importantly, a trailer that will reportedly debut at Star Wars Celebration in April.
